Vintage L. Hitchcock Stenciled Chair has a great design with tapered, segmented spindle curved back and splayed, segmented legs. Cream color with black accents and bronzed fruit bowl motif. Solid maple construction, with natural wood seat. Marked on back of seat.
The hand painting and stenciling was achieved by rubbing a bronzing powder into a tacky finish coat. Marked on the back of the seats “L.HITCHCOCK. HITCHCOCKSVILLE. CONN. WARRANTED.” (With all N’s backwards) and manufactured by the renown company of L. Hitchcock. Lambert Hitchcock founded an innovative chair company in the northwestern hills of Connecticut, where he produced his beautiful hand stenciled furniture. The little hamlet of Riverton, formerly know as Hitchcocksville, has been the home of the Hitchcock Chair Company since 1808.
